Eye Safety, Toys and the Holidays

 

In 2005, over 8000 children visited emergency rooms across the country with toy related eye injuries - and that doesn‘t even account for visits to private doctors and optometrists. Dr. Kimberly Friedman of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians appears on CN8's "Your Morning" to discuss eye safety, toys and the holidays.

Avoiding eye injuries...

Use common sense
Supervise children
Make sure gifts are age appropriate
Use safety goggles
Avoid broken toys and sharp edges
Keep sharp/pointed tree ornaments out of reach
If your child has an eye injury...

Corneal abrasion is the most common injury
Redness, irritation, tearing & blurred vision
Flush the eye with tears or water
Call your eye doctor
