Michael Veliky, O.D., has been named president of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians (NJSOP) for 2007.
An optometric physician for 14 years, Dr. Veliky’s term will run through October 2007. He previously served as NJSOP’s president-elect since 2005.
Dr. Veliky graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and completed his Optometry degree at The New England College of Optometry in 1992. He completed his residency at Omni Eye Services, after which he joined the Omni staff as Center Director of Omni’s Rochelle Park office.
Dr. Veliky is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Optometric Association. He has been an officer of the Bergen-Passaic Society of Optometric Physicians since 1995, serving as President since 1997.
A longtime and active member of NJSOP since 1993, Dr. Veliky also Co-Chairs NJSOP’s Legislative Committee and serves on the organization’s Clinical Care Committee. He is honored to serve in the capacity of adjunct faculty for the New England College of Optometry, SUNY College of Optometry, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, University of Houston College of Optometry, Inter-American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry and UC Berkeley College of Optometry.
A recipient of several prestigious awards, Dr. Veliky was named NJSOP’s Young Optometrist of the Year in 1998. In 2001 he was selected as the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians Optometrist of the Year. He has lectured extensively in the NY Metropolitan area. Dr. Veliky has also played an integral role in Omni Eye Services’ internship and residency programs.
Dr. Veliky resides in Franklin Lakes, with his wife, Jackie, and their four children.
